What Online Notepad Does
This online notepad saves as you type. There is no Save button, no account and no server: each change is written to your browser’s local storage, so your notes are still there when you come back on the same device and browser. A status line tells you when it last saved, and warns you if the browser is blocking storage.
You can keep several notes at once, each in its own tab named after its first line, and see a live count of words, characters and lines. Notes can be downloaded as plain .txt files, and any text file can be opened as a new note. Text size, a monospace font for code or tables, and spell check can be switched to suit what you are writing.
Because nothing leaves your device, it is a good scratch pad for drafts, lists and snippets you would rather not paste into a cloud service. The same property means notes do not sync to other devices — download anything you need elsewhere.

- Download a note as .txt, or open a .txt file as a new note
- Adjust text size, monospace font and spell check to suit

How to Read Your Result
Keeping notes safe
Treat browser storage as convenient, not permanent. For anything you would be upset to lose, press Download .txt from time to time. Plain text opens in every editor on every system and will still be readable decades from now.
Sharing a computer
Anyone who uses the same browser profile on this computer can open this page and read your notes. On a shared or public machine, use a private window — the notes then vanish when you close it.
Handy keyboard shortcuts
The editor is a standard text box, so the usual shortcuts work: Ctrl + Z (⌘ + Z on a Mac) to undo, Ctrl + Shift + Z or Ctrl + Y to redo, Ctrl + A to select everything, and Ctrl + F to search the page with your browser’s find bar. Tab moves focus to the next control rather than inserting a tab character.

Limitations & Accuracy Notes
- Storage space is limited by the browser, typically a few megabytes per site, which is plenty for text but not unlimited.
