What Printable Calendar Does
This printable calendar builds a PDF for any year in a couple of seconds: either twelve landscape monthly pages with big boxes to write in, or the whole year on a single portrait page. Weeks can start on Sunday, the usual U.S. layout, or Monday, the ISO 8601 layout used across most of Europe.
Every U.S. federal holiday is marked, and so is the day it is actually observed. When a federal holiday falls on a Saturday, federal employees get the Friday before off; on a Sunday, the Monday after. Banks, schools and many employers follow the same pattern, so the observed weekday is often the date that matters for planning — and occasionally it lands in a different year, as New Year’s Day 2028 does.
Optional observances add the dates people most often look up: Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Easter, Halloween, and the two daylight saving time changes. All of them are calculated from their rules — Easter from the Gregorian computus, the others from “second Sunday of May” style definitions — so any year prints correctly.

How to Read Your Result
Why New Year’s Day 2028 appears on the 2027 calendar
January 1, 2028 is a Saturday, so the observed federal holiday is Friday, December 31, 2027. The calendar places observed days in the year they actually fall, which is how payroll calendars and office closure schedules are built. The same thing happened in 2021, when New Year’s Day 2022 was observed on December 31, 2021.
Sunday-first or Monday-first?
Wall calendars sold in the United States traditionally start on Sunday. The ISO 8601 standard, used for week numbers and by most of Europe, starts on Monday — which keeps the weekend together at the end of each row. Pick whichever matches the other calendars you use so dates line up at a glance.
Printing tips
Print at 100% scale (“Actual size”) on Letter paper for the intended layout. On A4 paper choose “Fit to printable area”. The monthly pages print well in black and white; federal holidays are set in red and remain readable in grayscale.
Limitations & Accuracy Notes
- Only U.S. federal holidays and the listed observances are included; state holidays (such as Cesar Chavez Day or Patriots’ Day) and religious holidays other than Easter are not.
- Observed dates follow the federal rule for Monday–Friday workers. Private employers, schools and stock exchanges set their own schedules.
- Columbus Day is shown by its name in federal law; many states and cities observe the same Monday as Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
